Un'inchiesta condotta dai Carabinieri su delega della procura di Crotone ha analizzato le conversazioni tra Guardia di Finanza e Capitaneria avvenute prima della tragedia di Cutro. Le 625 pagine di documentazione evidenziano un rimpallo di responsabilità e mancanza di collaborazione tra le due istituzioni. Secondo quanto emerso, con maggiore tempestività e coordinamento, il drammatico naufragio avrebbe potuto essere evitato. Gli uomini delle Fiamme Gialle e della Guardia Costiera sono attualmente indagati per naufragio colposo e omicidio colposo plurimo.
